BOARD MEMBER AT LARGEJERRY HUSTON

I have been officiating for SNOA since 1976. I have worked Volleyball, Track and Field, and as a scorer and timer for Men’s and Women’s basketball. Most of you probably do not remember when girls’ basketball was a fall sport, boys’ basketball and Women’s Volleyball was a Winter Sport. I worked first as only an umpire and then after several years I got to actually referee a match. I was the first male volleyball official in Southern Nevada.

Around 1980 I was elected the assignor and instructional person for volleyball and I held that position for 10 years.  I also served on the All Sports Board as a representative from Volleyball from 1977 to 2008.  While on the All Sports Board I served on the Election, Finance, & By Laws Committees.  In 2017 I was elected to the Board of Control as 2nd Vice President.  In 2019 was elected Board Member at Large. I am currently serving in that position.

I feel my strongest qualities are:

  • I am organized
  • I am now retired from CCSD and can devote the time it takes to be on the Board of Control.
  • I am very knowledgeable about the schools, athletic directors, athletic administrators, and coaches in Southern Nevada.
  • I know and have worked with more than three fourths of the members of this association over the past 46 years.
  • I have also worked with the NIAA personnel and have always had a good working relationship with them.
  • I was a board member for Volleyball for over 30 years and worked closely with the SNOA Board of Control to make sure volleyball was not considered a minor sport.
  • I was also selected to the National Federation Volleyball Rules Committee and served for four years. I represented Region Seven which is composed of 8 Western States (Arizona, California, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada). I worked hard to get on the National Test Committee so the committee would make the written test for officials friendlier to the test taker.

Because of my experience and years of service to SNOA I feel I would be an excellent member for the SNOA Board of Control

Thanks for your consideration.

Jerry Huston
